2019 Berthoud, Co State Snow Sculpting Competition

Bronze Medal

The sculpture of a fish preying on a dragonfly has been waiting on a shelf for years. I brought this idea to the state competition because it fits into the parameters of the snow block and I knew we could accomplish this piece in record time. Due to scheduling, the team of three completed it in under 14 hours and all in one day.

The State Competition has grown over the years that I have been involved. It is refreshing to see new generations come out and join in the ranks. This is a first-hand experience for the future of this art form and many people find their love/hate relationship with mother nature. Weather is always unpredictable. Some times it’s too hot, other times to cold, but the art form still manages to take shape. Artists find that it is physically demanding with these challenges, but the addiction to the art form seems to bring them back each year to create something for the crowds to enjoy.

This is truly a favorite place in my carving season. Some of my best friends are always here.
